There are lots of moms in your shoes and I’m one of them! I’m so thankful I get the pleasure (although, like I said, it’s not always fun) of being at home with my kids and taking care of our household. But, let’s be honest, stay-at-home-mom chores don’t pay the bills, but wouldn’t it be lovely if they did?
Mom chores don't pay the bills! Share on XA little background on my family – we chose to wait to have kids until we were ready and able for me to stay at home, knowing that I would not bring in an income. While I know that a lot of couples do not have this choice, it was our desire for our family.
We worked extra jobs for the first 5 years of our marriage to pay off all our debt and that sure made it easier for me to be at home without an income.
I’ve tried over the years to find ways to make money, but most of my efforts are on the money-saving side instead of the money-making side. = cutting down on waste, and having my kids take packed lunches to school each day.
Be as economical as possible, make staple food items and cleaning products. You will save money! Share on XIn fact, these are the 5 Homemade Pantry Staples that you should be making too to really maximize your dollar at the grocery store!

10 Easy Ways To Make Money From Home
1. Nannying
Nannying is an excellent way to bring in extra income while staying at home. The best part of nannying is that it goes right along with what you already do as a stay-at-home-mom, especially if you are able to nanny a child around the same age as your own kids.
Nannying is an excellent way to bring in extra income while staying at home. Share on XPlus, having another child around to play with your child is also a bonus! I nannied a little girl last year for the duration of the school year. She was with me 3-4 days a week and she fit right into our daily schedule of kid activities.
Extra Kids Can Be Fun!
Plus, my kids loved having her around the house and always wanted to play with her. I earned money by doing the same activities we were already going to be doing, I just had an extra child to take care of.
If you are interested in being a nanny, you can create a profile on Care.com or jump on Facebook and join a local moms group. Post that you are looking to nanny a child and see where it leads you. There is also a site called NextDoor.com, which is a local neighborhood group.
Just search for your neighborhood and add a post on there that you are looking to be a nanny – I see a lot of posts about parents looking for nannies on my local NextDoor site.
Do some research on the going rates for nannies in your area by asking others and determine your pricing. The little girl I nannied was a “God” thing for me, I wasn’t looking to be a nanny, but the opportunity dropped right in my lap and I went ahead and took it!
2. Make Your Own Product
I have been making my own all-purpose cleaner for years, and recently while sitting at church I had a bright idea that I should bottle it and sell it for all the people who just don’t have time to make it themselves. Plus because I’m making it myself, it’s pure, natural and has no harsh chemicals.
Want to make extra money? Make your own product! Share on XIf you have a product you can make and sell, go for it! I’ve chosen to advertise my cleaner on a local Facebook page dedicated to Homemade products, as well as my own Facebook page. In the summer time when my kids host their annual bake sale, I make a few extra bottles and sell it too!
The sky is the limit on where you can post your products to sell them. Use local online pages, or consider setting up a booth a local Farmer’s Market or craft show on a weekend to display and sell your products. If you know any business owners with a storefront, consider approaching them about possibly setting up a little point-of-sale spot in their business.
3. Start A Blog
Starting a blog is an awesome way to bring in extra money – but it does take time and is NOT a “get rich quick” idea.
I’ve had a couple blogs over the years, and I’ve taken it very slow, built it from scratch, spent countless hours pouring my heart into my posts, and have loved it.
I take a lot of breaks from my blog to focus on other things especially when life just get really stressful. For me, that’s ok.
Creating a blog is a lot of work, but I know from all the other blogs out there that you CAN make money with your blog.
Most of the money made on blogs comes from advertising income, guest posts, sponsored posts, or from selling your own product. It all comes down to page views on your site and how many people are active on your blog. 4. Take a Work-at-Home Job
Working from home when the kids are napping is a great way to earn extra money from home.
The sky is the limit on the work-at-home jobs that are out there, you just have to get creative on where to find them.
A few of the work-at-home jobs that I’ve tried are: Data Entry, Virtual Assistant, Lead Processor, Appointment Scheduler, and Research Assistant.
The sky is the limit on work from home jobs! Get creative and start looking! Share on XRight Place At The Right Time
For me, most of these jobs have just come along when I’ve been in the right place at the right time. I never really went out looking for them. I did some data entry – but I did struggle with this, as I’m not good with numbers. I’ve been a virtual assistant many times over the years, but mostly for friends.
I also recently spent a few months doing some lead processing which tied right in with appointment scheduling for a local doctor and loved the job! It was simple to do, didn’t take very much time, and made great money!
I got paid every time I called a lead and got them scheduled for an appointment. If they showed up to their appointment, I was paid a little bit more. It was a perfect job to do at at home, I just needed a phone and my computer. Again, this was another job I did that found me.
Find a Job on Facebook
For a lot of work-at-home jobs, sometimes you just need to jump on Facebook and tell your friends and family what you are looking for, and then list off all your skills and see what comes back to you!
WISH PLANNING A PARTY WAS A PIECE OF CAKE?
We all have so many friends on Facebook and you never know who might see your post and actually be looking for someone like you!
Side note: I’ve had this happen to me on many occasions. I’ve posted on Facebook the type of job I was looking for and a couple days later I had a call from an old friend who saw my post and was looking for someone with my skills! While the job didn’t work out, it just goes to show you that sometimes you have to just put yourself out there!
5. Freelance
If you are the creative type, this may be a great job for you! I’ve done lots of freelance design jobs over the years. Since I have a degree in graphic design, all my work 20 years ago centered around design. I worked full-time doing design for other people and then for my own business for for years!
When I stepped away from my design business I still would do all sorts of freelance design jobs on the side for different people. I still do – especially for close friends, family and a few local doctor offices.
If you are able to do any type of freelance work, such as: code apps, space plan, stage houses, bake cakes, etc – then freelance is an easy way to make extra money from home. There are quite a few online freelance websites you can join and bid on freelance jobs like: Upwork.com, Fiverr.com, Toptal.com.
6. Multi-level Marketing/Network Marketing
Join a network marketing company or multi-level marketing company, and I know just the idea of this may sound frightening to a lot of moms. We all think we can’t sell anything, but when you are passionate about something, it’s pretty easy to sell it! There are so many of them out there – find something you are passionate about like lipstick, makeup, health products, vitamins, candles, essential oils, etc.
Find something you are passionate about and get out there and sell it! Share on XInstead of just consuming the products, sign up as a consultant and sell the products to your friends and family and then you can earn what you consume for free usually! It’s a win-win!
I’ve had my own network marketing company and boy does it come with it’s ups and downs – be ready for a LOT of rejection, and a lot of triumph! I’ll be honest, it just wasn’t for me – but that’s a whole other post to write some day! If the idea of selling a product excites you, then joining a MLM might be perfect and could be an easy way to earn extra money from home.
7. Teach Classes
ff you have a Bachelor’s Degree you can teach in many different ways – Community College, Substitute Teaching, Online Classes to foreign kids (and I’m sure there are many more). Before we had kids, I worked full-time as graphic designer and for a while I taught basic graphic design night classes at our local community college.
It was a lot of work, but it was so worth it! We made some great extra money and payed off all our debt in one year!
If you enjoy kids, you can might consider teaching classes to Chinese kids with VIPKid.com! The hours can be a little challenging, as they tend to be very late at night or very early in the morning, but these hours can also work well around being a mom all day.
Maybe you were a teacher before you decided to stay at home – consider being a substitute every now and then. Maybe you can swap babysitting with a friend for a day so that you can go be a substitute teacher at your local elementary school, while she watches your kids.
Teaching Can Pay Bills
There are a lot of classes that you can teach that don’t require any special schooling. If you enjoy kids, consider teaching a cooking class for a children’s cooking school, or if you have a passion for health, consider teaching some aerobic or weightlifting classes.
I know of a mom who loves working out and had a pile of medical bills to pay. She decided to start her own ‘Mommy & Me’ workout classes that met in a park. Each mom brought her kids and stroller and they spent an hour working up a serious sweat!
She collected money for the class via PayPal, and the best part, she didn’t need any special training in order to do it! Her classes were fun and they allowed the moms to work out with their kids! It was a win-win and she made some money!
GET CREATIVE and use your natural talents that God gave you to make some money!
8. Public Speaking
If you are one of those people that enjoys getting up in front of an audience, then why not make some money doing public speaking?! I’m one of those rare people who loves to speak to large groups! If you are passionate about a topic, find a way to brush up on your speaking skills and share your knowledge with others!
Join your local Chamber of Commerce and start out small by speaking for free to a small group. I used to speak about inexpensive ways to market your business with my local Chamber at a monthly luncheon and it was a great way to share my knowledge and also get my company name out there.
I loved it and would love to do more speaking! I’ve also spoken at my local MOPS group about couponing, as well as how to raise kids with God’s grace. While I never made a lot of direct money from speaking – I did make money in other ways from it.
My graphic design business grew by gaining new clients by just putting myself out there and I also was given gift cards as payment for speaking for a my MOPS group. Get creative and I’m sure you can come up with a great topic you could speak about too!
9. Dog Walking
If you are a dog lover, this is the perfect job for you! I don’t do this as much as I’d like to! I love dogs, especially mine, and I walk her ALL the time – usually about 6 miles a day broken up into 3-4 smaller walks. Sometimes I think she’s taking me for a walk more than I am walking her.
Dog walking is an excellent way to earn extra money and get some great exercise! Share on XI’m walking so much all the time, that I sure thought it would be nice to find a few other neighborhood dogs that needed walking as well! The idea of making money exercising is very appealing to me, so why not go for it?!
You can join dog walking sites like Rover.com or Wag.com or post on Facebook that you are looking for people who need their dogs walked. You can also try your local NextDoor.com site and see if you can find neighbors who need their dog walked. I’m still open to this idea and hoping to find the right pups to walk!
10. Bake Sale/Garage Sale
If you love to bake, this is a perfect idea! Have a bake sale with your kids on your front lawn! I do this with my kids every summer and it’s a blast!
We bake up a whole bunch of treats and make a festive table in my front yard. We stick up signs and balloons around the neighborhood and sit and wait for the customers to show up!

Special Visitors
This past year, the police even came! At first we thought we were in trouble, because they had their lights flashing. Once they stopped and got out, they said they were hungry! We all laughed so hard!
Garage sales and bake sales go hand in hand! The great part about this idea is that you can include the kids in the fun, I mean, what kids don’t love to get messy with their mom in the kitchen?! My kids also love to make other craft items to sell along with the baked goods such as: Rainboow Loom charms and bracelets, bookmarks, painted rocks, etc.
If you don’t feel like making baked goods, but have a lot of stuff around your house you need to get rid of, have a garage sale! Don’t forget to advertise your sale on Facebook and your local Nextdoor.com site. The best part about a garage sale is getting rid of stuff you don’t want or need anymore!
Oh and don’t forget to set up a tip jar! This year, we managed to make $32 in tips!
