Cheap Birthday Party Drink Ideas & Tips
1. Pick Only One Drink
One way to keep costs to a minimum is to provide only one drink choice for your party. You don’t have to have a whole bunch of choices, just one is good. I like to get input from the birthday child when choosing the drink choice.
2. Use a Drink Dispenser
Another great way to save money on the party drinks is to invest in a giant drink dispenser and use it for all your parties. This is the drink dispenser that I like and have had good luck with. Rather than spending money on individual drinks that don’t ever get drunk all the way, use a dispenser instead.
3. Buy Bulk Cups
Are you wondering how you will save money if you have to provide cups too? Wouldn’t it just be easier and cheaper to provide individual drinks?
The answer is that in the long run, it’s cheaper to use a drink dispenser. Then you can also buy cups in bulk, that you can use for many upcoming parties. Wondering what color to buy?

Go with clear, or another color you think you might use a lot – if you have girls, you might use pink cups a lot. If you have boys, you might use blue cups a lot. In our household I go with red – we seem to use red a lot in our parties, so red cups are always in my party storage bin.
4. Make A Cheap Drink
This may seem like a no-brainer, but when you are making a drink in bulk, make sure you pick a cheap drink! Think along the lines of lemonade, or Koolaid, or my favorite – flavored water! Keep reading for my favorite flavored water recipe.
5. Use Small Cups
Another way to save money on drinks is to use smaller sized cups! That way, you don’t have to give out so much of the drink you made! Kids don’t drink that much at one time, so just hand out a smaller amount of your drink – they can always refill their cups if they need to!
Favorite Cheap Drink Recipe
Wondering what my go-to, cheap birthday party drink recipe is? If you guessed Koolaid or powdered lemonade, you are very close! In order to save the maximum amount on a party, I do think it’s a great idea to use a giant drink dispenser and make flavored water instead! But, Koolaid and lemonade are also a frugal choice too!
I like flavored water for many reasons, the main one being that I have a lot of carpet in my house, and I don’t want spilled Koolaid stains.. Also, I think flavored water looks neat in the big dispenser and over the years, it’s been a fan favorite of a lot of the kid guests that attend our parties.
Fruit flavored water is perfect to serve at any kid’s birthday party, and if they spill, it won’t leave a stain, which is my favorite part!
Flavored Water Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 Sliced Strawberries or choose from the below list *
- 1-2 Gallons of Water
- Large Drink Dispenser
*4 sliced strawberries, 1 sliced orange, 1 sliced lime, 1 sliced lemon, ½ of a sliced cucumber, 2 sliced kiwi’s, thinly sliced pineapple, or other sliced fruit (bananas and apples don’t work very well, they both turn brown).
DIRECTIONS:
- Add water to your drink dispenser.
- Add sliced fruit to the water 30 minutes before the party so the flavors can soak into the water. Don’t add the fruit any earlier, or the fruit can get a little gross by the time your party starts and no longer look appetizing.
You can add any combination of fruit to the water, or just pick one. Our favorite is just strawberries! But, over the years we have tried many different combinations – like strawberry and lime, lemon and lime, orange and pineapple, etc.
Have fun with the flavors, but also remember, you are serving a bunch of kids, so simple flavors are usually best! You can also match the fruit to the party color scheme or theme – if you are having a beach party, using orange, lemons and limes are a perfect choice to match the party because the slices resemble a beach ball!
