Shop the clearance rack – Frugal Friday Tip #7! This should come as no surprise, but you should shop the clearance rack every time you shop! While you are there, don’t be afraid to buy damaged or dented goods!

Buy Damaged Goods From The Clearance Rack

Yep, you read that right, yes, you should consider buying damaged good from the clearance rack! For sure! Why? Well, because you can save serious money!

I’m not kidding – just today at the store I made my regular visit to the clearance rack and found a bunch of damaged canned goods for a serious discount! 

I found a 32oz can of tomato sauce for $0.89 which is about half off the regular price and the only reason it was in the clearance bin was that the can was dented.  The last time I checked, a dented can didn’t ruin the contents inside! 

I also found 2 boxes of dented cereal for $0.99 each, which is a great price for a box of cereal. There were a bunch of dented and damaged goods at a major discount and this is one way to save cash at the grocery store!

Never Use Grocery Delivery Or Pickup Services

Being able to shop the clearance rack is one great reason why you should never use grocery delivery or pick up services either!  I know not everyone agrees with me on this one, but think of all the deals you are missing out on if you never walked inside the store?! 

I also know that life is crazy and a lot of the time, there is just no time to get inside the store, so the ease of using grocery pickup is the way to go! But, when you can, and when you really need to save as much money as possible, get inside that store and hunt down those deals!  Read my post all about Why You Should Never Use Grocery Delivery or Pick up Services.  

How Do You Find The Clearance Rack At Your Grocery Store?

If you can’t find it on your own – Ask!  Simple as that. Just ask at your local grocery store if they have a discount aisle, bin, or rack.  In fact, you might be surprised to find that they have multiple discount racks throughout the store.  Some grocery stores like to have one designated aisle just for discounted items. 

Other stores like to have smaller discount racks all throughout the store in each department.  One of my local stores has a discount produce rack in the produce department – but, I’m not sure I would notice it if I didn’t already know it was there – it’s sort of in an obscure spot. 

Although it’s hard to notice, sometimes there are some great deals to be found – in fact, they sell ripe produce for $1 a bag.  I have found some outstanding deals here before!  If you can’t find the discount racks throughout your store, there might be a whole aisle devoted to clearance items. 

Full Aisle Of Clearance Deals

Another store in my area has an entire aisle devoted to markdowns – bread, canned goods, produce, paper towels, cleaning supplies, tampons, dog food, etc.  All sorts of things!  The nice part, it’s all in one place!

One time, I found two huge bags of grain-free dog good, for my pup.   I rarely ever purchased this type of dog food, due to the high price tag, and I found it in the clearance aisle for more than half off the regular price. 

And, to make it even better, I had a couple coupons in my coupon binder that I was able to stack on top of the already discounted price.  Basically, I got a steal on dog food and my pup loves it!

You can do this too – just make sure to bring your coupons, organized in a binder, with you every time you shop. That way, when you stumble upon a great deal, you will be ready to sweeten the savings by stacking with your coupons – making those great clearance racks finds even better!

Great Deals Are Found By Being Consistent

Keep in mind, you don’t always find a great deal every time you shop.  You find them when you are consistent about looking, and you don’t give up.  You need to check the clearance racks every time you shop and not be disappointed when you don’t find any deals. 

The way I find good deals is by being consistent about checking the clearance racks every time I got to the grocery store, and by taking my coupon binder with me every time I go to the grocery store. That way, if I do find a good deal, hopefully I can double the savings by using a coupon! 

You can do this too! I promise! Just remember to check the clearance racks and bring your coupons. A lot of time, it’s just about being in the right place at the right time!

Save Extra On Damaged Goods

My local stores allow the use of coupons stacked on top of clearance items – which can mean free stuff – or rock bottom prices!  Some store do not allow the use of coupons on already discounted items, so just make sure to ask. Either way, the items you find in the clearance rack are a great deal – most of the time.

Tips To Save Even More Money

• Make sure you have your coupon binder with you every time you shop – you never know when something will be on sale in the clearance rack! 
• Always shop the clearance racks.
• If you can’t find the clearance racks – just ask somewhere they are located in the store.
• Be consistent – check the clearance racks every time you shop.
