Planning For The New Year | Frugal Fun Mom

2020 Was a Doozy

What a year we had with 2020.  Nothing went as I had planned.  A lot of things were weird.  Life felt blah, and icky, and different – all at the same time.  I missed my friends, and going out for dinner in an actual restaurant where someone waited on me.  Who knew I would miss seeing people smile?  I’m tired of losing my mask.  I can’t believe I just said that!

Life With A Mask

Who would’ve thought we would actually say, “did you bring your mask?” to our kids a million times a day?

Life with a mask.  I never saw that coming and sadly I don’t think it’s going away any time soon. Despite the masks, there has been good that has come from this wacky year that we have just survived.

Good Things Have Come From 2020

There have been some good things that have come out of 2020, and there is a lot that has been downright annoying.  I’m working very hard to focus on the good, because I tend to look at the bad a lot.  But, what good does that do?  It only sours my mood.

For my family, there has been a lot of good things that have resulted because of 2020 and all the craziness that we went through.  In fact, we have had a lot of extra family time as a result of everything else we normally do being cancelled.  I’ve met a lot of new people from new serving opportunities that have sprung up as a direct result of the pandemic.

I’ve also spent a lot of extra time running.  Now, I know that may sound ridiculous and not all that fun, but to me, it’s heaven.  If you look hard enough, I’m sure you can make a list of all the good things that have resulted from 2020.  Which, I insist you do right now.  Jot down a list of all the unexpected good things that have resulted from this crazy year of 2020.

Done? Do you have your list?

Choose To Move Forward

Just because 2020 was so unpredictable and didn’t make much sense, that is not an excuse to give up.  Choose right now to keep moving forward.  Keep trying.  Keep reaching for your dreams – no matter what.

  • Keep Trying
  • Continue Planning
  • Don’t Stop Dreaming
  • Keep Pursuing Your Goals

“If you aim at nothing, you will reach it every time.”  – Zig Ziglar

Last year did not go as I had originally planned.  Not one bit, and while it was really hard in the thick of it, I’m still proud of the fact that I survived it and I’m much stronger for it.  You too!

We Survived

Hands up if you survived it?  If you are still moving, and dreaming, and the fact that you are even reading this, tells me you are going to make it!  You are going to do just fine!  You are ready to take 2021 head on!

Looking Back

A big part of setting goals is making sure you look back and evaluate how you did the year before, as well as be honest about where you are at right now.  Looking back at my goals for 2020, I’m actually very pleased with how I did, despite the pandemic.

A few of my goals, such as the crazy goal I set to run 775 miles with my pup, I totally crushed and ended up logging 903 miles instead!  Looking back is and good and it’s even better to celebrate your wins!  I’m also so proud of the fact that I not only launched a product on my blog, but I launched 4 products this year!

You can read my goals from last year, 2020.

My New Goals For 2021

  1. Run 925 miles with my dog.
  2. Lose 25lbs and keep it off!
  3. Run or workout 5 times a week.
  4. Make $1000/month on my blog.
  5. Finish all 4 of my quarterly sprints with my new coaching class.
  6. Keep my priorities straight – God first, family second, house third, and business fourth.
  7. Buy our 2nd income property.
  8. Be in bed by 10pm Monday-Thursday.
  9. Business Phrase For The Year: Progress Over Perfection.
  10. Personal Phrase For The Year: Live Spirit Led.

How To Set Goals

Wondering how to set goals for yourself?   I know sometimes we can get really caught up in making goals for the year complicated, and when they are difficult, a lot of times we throw in the towel before we even begin.

I know because I’ve been there.  Trying to make a long list of super-high achieving goals that are way out of reach.  Then I wonder why I’m frustrated that I didn’t accomplish much at all.  Zig Ziglar said it best, “If you aim at nothing, you will reach it every time.”

Step To Take To Set Goals

  1. Make A List: Write your goals down on paper.
  2. Achievable Goals: List goals that are achievable, but out of reach enough that you have to change in order to reach them.
  3. Short List:  Make a short list of goals – 10 or less.  Less than that, you are not being serious, more than that, and you are trying to do too much.
  4. Modify:  Revisit your goals list every 4 months.  Reassess, update, and change them if you need to!  It’s ok to modify, based off what the year has in store.  Perfect example is last year – in January, we had no idea a pandemic was about to hit and life would completely change.  I remember updating my goals in April when it was clear life had shifted.
  5. Visible: Keep your goals list visible all year long.  Hang them on your fridge so you can keep them in the forefront of your mind.
  6. Give Grace:  Give yourself a lot of grace when you mess up.  Progress over perfection is the key.

Now, it’s your turn!  What are your goals for 2021?  I’d love to know what they are   – comment below with your list or send me an email!  You can do this!
