So, grab your kids, and get the below ingredients and let me jump right in to explain how to make these super easy Oreo spider cookies!
Oreo Spider Ingredients
- Oreo Cookies – any kind or flavor you want
- Fruit Peel-A-Parts or Pull-n-Peel Twizzlers
- M&M’s – any kind, size or flavor
- Frosting – any flavor or color
How to Make Oreo Spiders
Oreo spiders are super easy for kids to make, so gather up a bunch of kids and your supplies and let’s get to work!
Step #1 – Separate Your Cookie
Start with just one single Oreo cookie. Gently and carefully separate the top cookie from the bottom that should still have the cream filling intact.
I’m sure Double Stuffed Oreos would work really well and give you a bit more filling to work with. I just used regular Oreo cookies and they worked fine.
You can separate a whole bunch of cookies at once, or just do them one at a time.
Step #2 – Peel Your Spider Legs
Take your Peel-A-Parts or Twizzlers and peel them apart. These will be your spider legs.
After you have peeled a few apart, cut your legs at the desired length for your spider cookies – about 1.5-2 inches each.
If you don’t have Twizzlers, you can also use licorice ropes, or cut thin strips of Red Vines, or you can even use pretzel sticks.
Step #3 – Press Legs Into Filling
Now gently, but firmly press your spider legs into the cream filling of your Oreo cookie. Press 3 or 4 on each side.
Step #4 – Replace the Cookie
Now that your legs are in place, you’ll want to put the top part of your Oreo cookie back on. If your cookie is not staying on well, add a small dallop of frosting to the center and then place the top of your cookie on. That should help it stick better.
Step #5 – Add Eyes
Finally it’s the fun part, at least according to my kids! The last step to making Oreo spiders is to add the eyeballs.
WISH PLANNING A PARTY WAS A PIECE OF CAKE?
We used Peanut Butter M&M’s for our Oreo spiders, but you can use any flavor or size of M&M’s you want. I liked the look of these spiders using the bright colored M&M’s – it made them even more festive.
To add the eyes, you’ll need to small dallop frosting to the top of your cookie and then press your M&M’s into the frosting. You can use any color or flavor of frosting you want – we used chocolate because that’s what I had on hand at home.
Don’t feel like you have to make a batch of homemade frosting for these cookies – because you certainly do not. This is a great time to use store-bought frosting. If you want to make your own frosting, you can do that too and here is my favorite buttercream frosting recipe.
There you have it! Your Oreo spiders are done!
Oreo Spider Ingredient Alternatives
There are a lot of possible alternative ingredients you can use to make your Oreo spiders. Here at FAB Party Planning Mom, I believe celebrating life should be easy and fun, and running out to the store to buy ingredients is not my idea of making my life easy – so if you have one of these alternative ingredients, then go with that instead. No need to make an extra trip to the store.
- Use pretzel sticks for legs instead of pull-a-parts.
- Use edible eyes instead of M&M’s.
- Use Double Stuffed Oreos instead of regular ones.
- Use flavored Oreos like Mint or orange Halloween Oreos for a fun twist, instead of regular Oreos.
- You can also add candy corns to the front of your Oreo spider like teeth.
