Don’t stock up too much – your Frugal Friday Tip this week! Don’t miss these money-saving tips to help you no only save money at the grocery store, but make sure you are not wasting money either!

It is possible to stock up too much at the grocery store – and in the end you wind up wasting money buying things you thought you would needed, and instead they expire before you can use them.

Don't Stock Up Too Much! Only buy what your family will use. Share on X

Great Sale + Coupon=Great Deal!

Raise of hands – who has been super excited when they have come across a great sale on a item that you use all the time?  And even more excited when you realize you have a few coupons for that item too, making this a rock bottom sale that is even better?!

WISH PLANNING A PARTY WAS A PIECE OF CAKE?

Now it can be! Let me help you begin the planning process with our easy-to-fill-in checklist. Our Speed Party Planning Checklist will help you begin creating a basic party plan in as little as 15 minutes! It's a game-changer - get it FREE for a limited time!

Then, months later, you realize that your family tastes have changed and they are not using as much of that item as you thought they would? Your pantry is full of an item that you are not going to use by the time it expires, and that great sale, doesn’t seem like such a great idea. Now, instead of saving money, you are paying money for something that you don’t plan to use.

Stocking Up Too Much

Don't Stock Up Too Much on Groceries - Frugal Friday Tip #6 | Frugal Fun Mom

I’ve done this before.  A few times, actually.  This happens to me a lot with condiments.  One time I came across a great sale on salad dressing.

We were using a lot of this one specific salad dressing at the time, so I purchased 8 bottles of it with my coupons and didn’t pay attention to the expiration date (which was my first mistake).

I ended up throwing away 4 bottles because they expired before we were able to use them.  This is very easy to do with all sorts of products, so just make sure that you can use or can give away all the products you purchase that have a short expiration.

Pay Attention To The Expiration Date

If you stock up a bunch on an item without paying close attention to the expiration you can get more excited about the money you are saving and end up buying a lot more of the product than you can actually use before it expires.

In the end, you may find yourself throwing food away, and then you realize that the great deal you thought you found for that product is actually not that great of a deal.

It’s also very easy to get in the mindset of making sure you don’t let any coupons go to waste.  This can be very dangerous too – you may end up stocking up on a product that you don’t end up using or your family may not like.

To be safe, I’d suggest, only stocking up on an item that you know for sure you family will use and that has a far off expiration date. When you trying a new product, it’s safer to only get 1 or 2 extras, until you know your family loves the product and will for sure use it.

You Don’t Have To Use Every Coupon

It's ok to let a coupon go unused! You ARE saving money by NOT buying a product, too. Share on X

Just remember, it’s ok to let a coupon go unused! You don’t have to use every coupon – you are saving money by NOT buying a product too. Coupons are only good on things you need or that your family will use. There is no point to having a huge stockpile full of products that never get used, so don’t stock up too much!
